A woman with a puzzled look on her faceCaring for an aging parent or elderly spouse can be very challenging — especially if you are suddenly faced with a medical crisis. Whatever the situation, you have become responsible for caring for your elderly loved one. You are not sure of your next step, or even the first step. And, to top it off, when you talk with doctors, nurses and other professionals, they might as well be speaking a foreign language.

These definitions will help you understand their language. You’ll find easy-to-understand explanations of the words and phrases most frequently used in eldercare, retirement and estate planning. It also includes clear explanations of important financial, insurance and legal terms.

Explanations of the words and phrases used by Medicare are in the Medicare Glossary.
